permission to talk. This makes managing teams challenging throughout the mission side of the organization. One national manager stated Iââ¬â¢m of the mindset to give them more ââ¬â tell them what you know as soon as you know. Like within reason what you know. Even if it means, things might change ââ¬â if theyââ¬â¢re going to change drastically, clearly youââ¬â¢re not in a position to, you know tellâ⬠¦ but if you have a sense, I would say communicate that with the caveat that there are a few things still moving but hereââ¬â¢s the directly where weââ¬â¢re going. But weââ¬â¢re less connected to that governing model, it seems. As a result, information is not shared in the same approach, and staff feel uninformed. It was further mentioned that staff and team meetings are too infrequent. Another concern with communications systems are the mechanism which exist. It was explained that important information often fall through the cracks or take too long to be disseminated because of the uncoordinated system.. A national manager offered a solution saying ââ¬Å"access to more of your colleagueââ¬â¢s calendars... would help in knowing what your colleagues were doingâ⬠so that staff can support each other and be informed about aligning efforts. Upon unification and with the change in leadership, a new communication mechanism was developed where people could email the national CEO questions in email form. However, staff participants indicated that this system doesnââ¬â¢t function well, in that people donââ¬â¢t feel comfortable with the communication system in place for providing feedback or asking questions. Staff indicated that there is no feedback loop to speak beyond oneââ¬â¢s direct superior or to the common CEO email inquiries box. Staff are interested in a broader feedback system where discussions can happen at all levels of the

Essay on Aileen Wuornos - 2768 Words
Hannah Velez FLM 400 Final Paper Aileen Wuornos: The Dark Tale of One Womanââ¬â¢s Descent into Infamy When did it all begin? Technically, Aileen became a murderer on December 1, 1989 when 51-year-old electrics shop owner Richard Mallory picked her up on I-75 (8) and together they drove off into the woods to meet an uncertain fate. But when did the murderous creature that is Aileen Wuornos come to be? She began prostituting herself as age 9 (5), without so much as an assault charge related to her profession for 24 years while working the streets. From December 1, 1989 to November 19, 1990 Aileen was responsible for the deaths of seven men, all of who were johns of hers (7): Richard Mallory, December 1, 1989; Dick Humphreys, May 19, 1990; Charles Carskaddon, May 31 1990; Troy Burress, July 30, 1990; Peter Siems, September 11, 1990; Walter Antonio, November 19, 1990; and David Spears, May 19, 1990. David Spears was the only man she was not convicted of killing. She carried a gun with her at all times; the murder weapon was a .22 caliber handgun ââ¬â a small gun, generally carried by women and generally intended for self-defense. During her many trials, the recovered handgun, which Aileen had dumped in a river, was forensically matched to four of her victims (5). Aileenââ¬â¢s modus operandi was very consistent across all of her crimes. She would pick up men as a hitchhiker, usually along I-75 (3). Once in the vehicle, she would tell a sob story about trying to save up money to send for her children (she had no dependents) and ask if there was anything she could do for them in exchange for a little cash. Management Quantitative and Qualitative Mixed Models Analysis
Question: Describe about the main ideas of quantitative methods? Answer: Section 1 Literature review and ANOVA In a todays, the qualitative and quantitative research is become so much important. The process of doing both qualitative and quantitative research at a time is called as mixed research models. There are so many skills required for doing this analysis for mixed research models. First we have to decide our goal or aim for the research. After deciding this aim, then we need to categorize the data collected by using the instrument. Data collection is very important step in the research process. If there is mistake during the process of collecting data, it results into wrong estimates about the population. Taking care during collecting data is very important factor in the research process. After collection of this data, we need to classify whether this data is qualitative or quantitative. Then after, the data analysis is the important part for proving our claims. In data analysis, we use different statistical methods. There may be different statistical methods for the quantitative and qu alitative data. Also sometimes it is depends upon what we have to prove. After data analysis, the last task is to write the results or conclusions for our study. In quantitative data analysis, there are two main categories of data analysis. First is descriptive statistics and second is the inferential statistics. In the descriptive statistics analysis, we study the variables for the mean, mode, median, minimum, maximum, range, standard deviation, variance, kurtosis, skewness, etc. That is, we study all the descriptive measurements regarding the variables in this descriptive analysis. Descriptive analysis of the variable gives us the idea about the data regarding the variable under study. Range and standard deviation provides view about the spread of the data and skewness provides the skew of the data. In fact we understand the what type of the distribution of the data for the given variable is. Study of descriptive statistics for each variable under study is very important because it gives us some clue for the next inferential statistics. It also provides the facility of comparison between the different descriptive statistics among the differ ent variables under study. Inferential statistics is the main part for the data analysis. It provides us the testing of hypothesis for the different claims regarding the variables or data under study. In the testing of hypothesis, we establish the null and alternative hypothesis or we can say that we test the claim of researcher. Then we decide the some level of significance or alpha value for this test. Most of the time, we take a level of significance as the 5% or 0.05. Next step in the testing of hypothesis is the finding the test statistic value. We use the test statistic formula for the calculation of the test statistic value. Selection of the proper test for the claim is very important in the testing of hypothesis. There are several statistical hypothesis tests are available and proper selection is depends upon what we want to prove. After finding out the test statistic value, we can find the p-value for this test. After finding the p-value we compare this p-value with the alpha value or given level of s ignificance for this hypothesis test. Then at last we take the decision about the null hypothesis or the claim associated with this test. We reject the null hypothesis if the p-value is less than the given level of significance and we do not reject the null hypothesis if the p-value is greater than the given level of significance or alpha value. Now, we have to see for what purpose we use the ANOVA. ANOVA is nothing but the analysis of variances. It is used when there are more than two variables. When we have only two samples, then we can use t test or z test but there are so many situations, there are more than two variables are available for analysis. In this situation we need to use the ANOVA test. ANOVA found very important in the analysis of the multiple variables. One way ANOVA is the statistical technique for testing the equality of the population means for three or more than three variables. In this test, there are so many calculations but due to the availability of different software, it gives us fast result. We uses ANOVA test for checking whether all the population means are same or not. In other words, we check whether a difference in all treatments and among treatments is. We take the decision about ANOVA based on p-value. We know the decision rule for rejecting or not rejecting null hypothesis. The decision rul e is given as below: Decision rule: We reject the null hypothesis when the p-value is less than the given level of significance or alpha value. We do not reject the null hypothesis when p-value is greater than the given level of significance or alpha value. So, we take the decision according to the decision rule given above and then at final, we write the conclusion about the null hypothesis for study. Different tests of independence In this topic, we have to see the different test of independence. First we have to see the chi square test for independence. Chi square test for independence Here, we have to see how we have to conduct the chi square test for independence. We use this test when we are given the two categorical variables from the single population. By using this test, we have to check whether there are any significant association exists between these two variables or not. There are so many examples for categorical data. For example, in surveys voters are divided as male and female. This chi square test for independence has mainly four steps given as below: First establish the hypothesis Formulate the analysis for test Analysis of the sample data Conclusion or interpretation The null and alternative hypotheses are given as below: Null hypothesis: Variables under study are independent. Alternative hypothesis: Variables under study are not independent. Next step in this test is to decide the level of significance. It is important because it gives us the margin of accuracy of results. After deciding level of significance or alpha value, we need to find out the test statistic value. After finding test statistic value, we find the p-value. Then we take the decision about null hypothesis based on the p-value. Last step is to make a conclusion about the null hypothesis. Section 2 and 3 5 journal articles Article 1: Education, Occupation and Earnings In this article, researcher study the different variables regarding the education, occupation and earnings. Researcher also find out the relationship between the education and occupation, education and earning; and occupation and earnings. Also researcher find the collectively relationship among the three variables education, occupation and earnings. Researcher uses different statistical analysis for this study. First of all researcher collects the data for the education, occupation and earnings. Then he arranges this data in a systematic format for next study. Then after he divide this data according to the different category such as male and female, etc. dividing data is very important because this would helpful for the analysis of particular category. Then researcher find out the some descriptive statistics for these variables under study. The study of descriptive statistics is very important because it gives the brief idea about the data under study. After this researcher find ou t the correlation coefficients between the different pairs of variables. Researcher finds the correlation coefficients between the variables education and occupation, education and earnings and finally he find out the correlation coefficient between the occupation and earnings. Also researcher find out the correlation coefficients according to the gender of the person involved in this study. Then researcher uses the different design of experiments for this study. The model of multiple regression is used for the study of relationship between the three variables education, occupation and earnings. After some calculations, researcher find out the multiple regression equation for the relationship between the education, occupation and earnings. Researcher test the claim that there is significant relationship exists between these three variables. Researcher found that there is significant linear relationship exists between these three variables under study. Then after, researcher added some more variables for this study. Researcher added the variable like achievements in early career, etc. Then again find out the relationship between the different pairs and find out the results and regression equations for the different pairs. Article 2: Inequality among world citizens: 1820 1992 This article investigates the distribution of well being among world citizens during the last two centuries. The results of this study show the inequality of world distribution for the income during the period of 19th century. This article studies some theoretical issues about the world distribution of income. The study was focused on international differences in GDP per capita. This article shows that inequality among the countries is the key factor in world inequality. But, this article also shows that world inequality is not well approximated by testing hypothesis that all civilians in the same country have same income. For this purpose, they used different tests and other statistical methods. For different hypothesis they used different suitable tests of hypothesis and then according to the p-value they take the decisions about null hypothesis. For the study of above discussed article, they collected the data from each country and then use this data for analysis. One sample tests, two sample tests and multiple sample tests were used for this study of inequality among world citizens. Article 3: Effective Practices for developing reading comprehension There was a rich history for the study of reading comprehension research. There are so many different issues regarding the reading comprehension. This article also explains the idea of teaching comprehension. In this article, the things by good readers are given as below: Good readers are active readers. From the outset they have clear goals in mind for their reading. They constantly evaluate whether the text is meeting their goal or not. A good reader looks over the text or book before they read. There are so much reasons or activities described for the good readers. For the study of different hypothesis regarding the reading comprehension, data is collected for the two different groups. With practice and without practice data collected for testing the hypothesis regarding the reading comprehension. Then by using this data, they perform the appropriate test and at finally take the decision about null hypothesis whether it have to reject or do not reject. We take this decision by comparing the p-value and level of significance or alpha value. We know that if the p-value is less than the level of significance or alpha value, then we reject the null hypothesis and if the p-value is greater than the level of significance or alpha value, then we do not reject the null hypothesis. Article 4: For this article, researcher collects the self reported data for the men and women from the year 1973 to 1974. Here researcher collects the self reported data first and then again collects the actual real data for the height and weight for the men and women. Then researcher arranges this data in a systematic format according to the two categories such as male and female. After doing this, researcher calculate the different proportions for the height and weight of the male and female respondents. Researcher uses some tests for checking his claims. After doing all these, researcher draws some conclusions regarding the data of height and weight for the male and females. Researcher wants to check the accuracy of this data. The recorded data is regarding with the height and weight of the men and women. Researcher found that men and women both were reported, on the average, with small but systematic errors. Researcher found that larger errors were obtained in certain population subgroups. Also researcher found that men and women differed somewhat in the pattern of misreporting. Researcher found that weight was understated by 1.6% by men and 3.1% by women while height was overstated by 1.3% by men and 0.6% by women. Researcher found in the previous studies that the most important correlates of the amount of error were actual measurements of height and weight. Researcher found the interesting finding that misreporting of both height and weight in men was correlated with both aspects of body size, whereas for women, it was related mainly to the characteristic in question. Researcher also found the impact of the some demographic variables such as age and educational level has some importance in the misreporting of the height and weight. Article 5: Instrumental variables and search for Identification: From Supply and Demand to Natural Experiments Here, researcher uses the method of instrumental variables. This method was first used in the 1920s for estimation of the supply and demand elasticitys. Again this method was used to correct the measurement error in the single equation models. Currently instrumental variables are widely used for the reduction of the bias from the omitted variables in the estimation of the causal relationships such as the effect of schooling on earnings. Here researcher use the method of randomized experiments for the study of supply and demand. Also researcher study the pattern for the supply and demand. Researcher also conclude that an instrumental variables estimate of the demand elasticity can be constructed by dividing the sample covariance between the log quantity of flaxseed and the yield per acre by the sample covariance between the log price of flaxseed and the yield per acre. This estimate is consistent estimate. This is consistent as long as the yield per acre is uncorrelated with the error in the demand equation and correlated with price. Researcher also found that replacing the yield per acre by the price of substitutes for this calculation, then it generates an instrumental variables estimate of the supply elasticity. Gene Therapy And Mesothelioma Essays - RTT, , Term Papers
Gene Therapy And Mesothelioma Gene Therapy ? Part 1 Introduction and Mesothelioma The best way to begin this paper is to identify exactly what genes and gene therapy are. Genes are biological units of heredity. Genes determine obvious traits, like the color of your hair or eyes, and also characteristics that aren't so obvious, such as your blood's ability to carry oxygen through the body. They are what make us, us. Genes make us who we are, each made up in our own unique way. Genes carry the directions that allow cells to produce certain proteins called enzymes. Genes, when they have flaws, can result in disease in the body (National Cancer Institute, 2000). The next major point that need to be clarified is gene therapy, what exactly is it, its goals, and how important is it both today, and for the future. Gene therapy is a process of manipulating a person's genetic makeup to fight a disease they may have as a result of a genetic flaw. In a short explanation, the genes of a person are altered and inserted again into the body, in the hopes that those genes will multiply, then outnumber and destroy the defective genes, therefore defeating or significantly delaying the spreading and destruction of a disease (National Cancer Institute, 2000). This is still experimental treatment for all diseases, and it is most frequently tested on different forms of cancer, AIDS, cystic fibrosis, hemophilia, and Retinitis Pigmentosa. There is a hopeful outlook for the future of this type of treatment, but many more trials and tests must be performed. While it could be a revolutionary type of treatment, its effectiveness is still quite unknown (University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center, 1996). Gene therapy is often tested as a possible treatment for Mesothelioma, a deadly cancer. This type of cancer is considered to be uniformly fatal; according to records of the disease, patients have less than two years to live after the diagnosis of this cancer, and needless to say, this is with standard treatment. This cancer is frequently linked to asbestos exposure; asbestos was most likely prevalent in a previous work environment. Initial experiments focused on pleural mesothelioma, a type of chest tumor that affects the lining of the chest and is very strongly linked to asbestos exposure. The cancer barely, if at all, responded to radical surgery and chemotherapy treatment (University of Penn, 1995). Doctors and scientists are desperately seeking for a cure to this disease, it is very hard to treat and produce any type of result. In 1990, gene therapy treatments for this cancer first took place on laboratory mice. The majority of results from animal testing were positive, in which the disease was either cured or slowed down quite a bit. Due to these positive results, scientists were eager to begin testing humans, yet found out that it was not so easy with human beings. Things did not happen as expected, such as the body of the patient would not produce enough of the altered gene or just did not respond at all. (Drake, 1997) Donald Hardy was the first mesothelioma patient in the world to be treated with gene therapy. While Mesothelioma defied all forms of conventional treatment and led to a quick death, it was different with this experiment. Hardy's cancer had become mysteriously quiescent; the cancer had stopped growing inside his body. Hardy had to follow up with constant trips to the doctor to be tested to see if the cancer started to grow again. There was always an element of uncertainty in the treatment. While Hardy's cancer didn't return, he was one of a small number of patients with a successful result in the experimentation. A possible explanation was that the treatment caused an inflammatory reaction that stopped the cancer cells from growing, at least temporarily (Drake, 1997). Hopefully, gene therapy is a field that will change our medical field and how we treat diseases. While seemingly an easy concept, it has presented our best doctors and scientists with a huge question mark, which we as a society can only hope gives us a more possibilities of treatment for the diseases we can not get rid of now. Excavation of Tutankhamun essays
Excavation of Tutankhamun essays Tutankhamuns tomb was found to be fully intact during Howard Carters excavation in 1922. Tutankhamuns tomb is a home to many of the mysteries which surround ancient Egyptians burial practices, their beliefs and the afterlife. Paintings found on the walls around Tutankhamuns tomb reveal the importance of mummification. They tell stories of the Opening of the Mouth ceremony, which was considered to be very important because only then could the Ka and Ba spirits be at home in the dead mummys body. The pictures show all of the gods which the ancient Egyptians believed in. They portrayed the god of the dead, Osiris, as being the one of the most important gods and they revealed that by pleasing him, they would be welcomed into the afterlife. The paintings also reveal the importance of many animals which were worshiped by Ancient Egyptians. The scarab beetle became the symbol of resurrection and this is why it is painted throughout all of the pictures in Tutankhamuns tomb. The sun was also recognised to be a very important symbol because it symbolised the god Ra, who was the creator of life. The Ankh symbol was always used in these painting as well because it was the symbol of life. The items found in Tutankhamuns tomb reveal how important a pharaohs journey to the afterlife really was. Egyptians believed that they could only have an everlasting life if the soul could return to the body for food and rest. The tomb was filled with furniture, hunting equipment, clothes, jewellery and food. They believed that Ka could only survive if it had nourishment and a habitation to live in. The 600 objects found in Tutankhamuns tomb all have meanings and a purpose, which was to support the pharaoh on his journey to the afterlife. One of the most important objects found in the tomb was the model boats. There were 17 model boats found in the tomb and these boats were similar ...

Marriage and Divorce Workshop Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Marriage and Divorce Workshop - Assignment Example The couple also has to connect on an intelligence level. If the coupleââ¬â¢s intelligence levels are too different, then they connect less, and this could lead to conflict and divorce. The couple also needs to be at the same level of maturity, which allows them to connect on an emotional level. Emotional congruence involves the feelings that the couple has in the relationship. If one of them is not happy, then the other is not happy. It is only when they are on a similar maturity level that they can decipher each otherââ¬â¢s emotions correctly. The coupleââ¬â¢s hearts also have to connect, i.e. love and trust. Lack of this connection is another major cause of divorce. Sexual connection is also very important in marriage since varying sex drives can lead to misunderstandings and conflict. Finally, biological connections also affect the strength of the relationship, for example, touch and taste. Couples who have a lasting relationship have a strong biological connection; for e xample, when they are close to each other, they have a good feeling. Patterns of Relationships There are four patterns in a relationship, the first of which is a dependent-dependent relationship. In this relationship, neither of the individuals that make the couple makes the final decisions since their decision is collaborative. The couple is usually afraid to make these decisions leading to conflict, which, in turn, leads to the root boat crashing. This sort of relationship happens when two people form a relationship because neither can stay alone. The individuals feel as if they cannot rely on themselves. This sort of relationship could result in a feeling of being imprisoned by the neediness. While this relationship can be healthy, it is grounded in desperation. Dependent-independent relationships involve the dependence of one individual on another in the relationship. In this relationship pattern, only one of them will grow, with the dependent person also hoping to grow. This is the traditional form of a relationship where the wife is dependent on an independent husband. This reduces conflict and ensures that the boat is relatively steady. Independent-independent relationships involve a couple who depend on themselves. This relationship can be considered as a fair relationship since both individuals can be successful and wealthy within the relationship; these relationships do not last for very long. The boat, in this case, will rock and may sink at some point. Interdependent-interdependent relationships involve a couple who both have their own opinions. These relationships experience a lot of conflicts because the individuals in the relationship have many different opinions, which will see the boat rock. In this relationship, the individuals, mutually depend on the other, and it differs from dependent relationships where some individuals are dependent while some are not.Ã

Aristotles View on the Natural of Teleology Essay
Aristotles View on the Natural of Teleology - Essay Example In this first argument, Aristotle draws to the comparison of rainfall and existent of animal parts which seems to be the most disputed contents in Aristotelian Corpus. In his argument, Aristotle tries to develop a final causation with regard to nature. Aristotle discusses the subject of natural teleology as a result of his predecessors trying to trace the final causation. The predecessors believe that things exist the way they as a result of necessity. This necessity includes the material elements that exist on their own natures and potentials. However, according to Aristotle, his predecessors describe natural phenomena with a focus on necessity. For Aristotle, his main focus is to establish the existence of other causes other than the material necessity. Since nature is a source of change, it acts to serve something; therefore, Aristotle is on the view that teleology and necessity tend to be related (Asanuma, 2011). Regarding how Aristotle distinguishes his teleological view concerning nature and the views associated with his opponents, it is clear that Aristotle considers his view and those of his opponents to be incompatible. As such, Aristotle disagrees with the view material necessity operates in nature and does not require operations associated with teleology. On another note, these two forces associated with nature could be compatible; however, operations associated with material necessity may not be sufficient when it comes to producing positive results. The natural phenomena may not come about with the absence of a final cause, as such, explanations related to formal and final causation should not be reduced to explanations focusing on efficiency and material causation. While there is a school of thought that concur necessity and teleology seems compatible with regard to Aristotleââ¬â¢s view, this can only happen with the absence of ontological consequences (Krbalek & Vacek, 2013).à Ã
